The Hymn

THE ALLOBROGES is the national hymn of Savoie and was first sang in Chambery in 1856.

The freedom which this hymn expresses evokes the refuge which Savoie offered the people proscribed by Napoleon Bonaparte following his coup in 1851.

The music of the hymn is military music of Consterno (a military leader) and the lyrics are by Joseph Dessaix.

It doesn't contain any exclusionary or populist views: the Savoie was able to, in its hymn, think about its neighbours whilst advancing ideas of freedom, fraternity, love and equality.

The Principality of Comborciere has adopted this hymn, albeit with a few amendments.

Every Comborcien or Comborcienne who will be able to sing this hymn with no mistake while being in Comborciere will win a glass of champagne

I salute you, oh hospitable home Where torment will find the protection
Of a free people flying the flag
I come to celebrate the constitution
Alas proscribed! France I must leave
To find shelter under a sweeter climate
But here hope is revived
And now, now, I am so proud of myself.
